Monday, April 22: “Earnestly Seeking Righteousness”

Matthew 5: 6: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”

You can tell that Jesus shared DNA with His great-x-28 grandpa David (Matthew 1: 17)–they had the same thirst for God; they proclaimed the same thirst for God; they prescribed the same thirst for God. When Jesus confessed His thirst on the cross (John 19: 28) it was a thirst for righteousness, and that not His own, but ours. Calvary made our righteousness possible, which is why Jesus is able, without hesitation, to promise satisfaction to those who hunger and thirst for it.
