Monday, January 13: “Kind Intentions”

Ephesians 1: 5, 9: “[God] predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will … He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him.” To hear some people talk, you’d think that the will and intentions of God, toward His creation and His people, are mean—nothing but despair, misery and gloom. Irreversible hopelessness! St. Paul had a better message for the Ephesians and for us: God’s intentions are kind! They’re so nice, Paul says it twice! First he says that we’ve become God’s children through adoption (that’s kind!), and then, what Christ shows us about the mystery of God’s will (even kinder!) What mystery? Tune in on Friday for the reveal! Spoiler alert—it’s kind!
