Monday, June 10: “Forgiven, not Excused Part II”

Psalm 57: 6: “They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down; they dug a pit before me; they themselves have fallen into the midst of it.”

As the army of Saul, Israelites all, were seeking David’s life, they didn’t have time to consider the injustice of the situation. They were just obeying orders. Only later did they realize their wrong, make David king, and receive his forgiveness. But excused? As David said, they became victims of the very traps they fashioned for his destruction. This is not a lack of mercy, but an enactment of the law of sowing and reaping, another element of this issue which we will explore later this week.
