Monday, June 24: “The Influential One”

Psalm 89: 19b-21: “I have given help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people. I have found David My servant; with My holy oil I have anointed him, with whom My hand will be established; My arm also will strengthen him.”

It is impossible to underestimate the influence of King David. He was able to take an entire nation which was going nowhere except in reverse, as directionless as its leader, the fallen first king, and in forty years conquer all its enemies, identify and build its spiritual capital, and return it to God. Even his failures became textbook examples of how to recover and move on. And Jesus Christ Himself, of Whom David is a forerunner and type, referred to David’s actions and writings more than anyone else’s. That’s influence! All of which started when the Lord “gave help to one.”
