Monday, May 20: “Sustained in the Midst of Suffering”
Psalm 3: 4, 5: “I was crying to the Lord with my voice, and He answered me from His holy mountain. I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustains me.”
It was probably the most painful incident David ever experienced: The son he loved most had rebelled, seized the throne, and was now seeking his life (2 Samuel 12: 11). Nathan’s prophecy was coming to pass, big time! But Nathan had also promised David that he would survive the crisis (v. 13). This gave David hope and peace; a hope and peace we, too, can claim when we believe in the Lord and His mercy towards us.
