Monday, October 28: “Blessed in Consideration”

Psalm 41: 1: “How blessed is he who considers the helpless; the Lord will deliver him in a day of trouble.”

In Hebrew the word translated ‘bless’ means ‘to kneel in adoration and thanksgiving.’ Even when the word describes an action of God, as when ‘God blessed Adam and Eve’, or here in this psalm, the connotation is the same. This means that our consideration of the helpless is, at its core, an act of thanksgiving that blesses Him–not being thankful that we are not like the poor, but thankful that we are able to help them. That attitude, God will bless.
