Monday, October 9: “Divine Conviction”

1 Corinthians 10: 28: “But if anyone says to you, ‘This is meat sacrificed to idols,’ do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for conscience’ sake.”

We know that condemnation is gone (Romans 8: 1). Guilt is gone (Psalm 32: 5). Does that mean that sin does not matter any more, as we hear everywhere today? If sin does not matter, why does God still allow it to trigger conviction? That pang (or pummeling) of conscience that we feel when we realize that we have crossed the line into sin is not something drummed into us by our fundamentalist fathers. It is something the Holy Spirit sends to us personally (John 16: 8) to save us, and those around us, from the effects of sin. God forbid that we ever be free from conviction, as long as we are on this earth!
