November 19, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

"So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’” (Luke 17:10)

God is self-sufficient and can do all things by Himslef. So why does He enlist our help when He can make His kingdom prosper on earth without it? For us to have His divine joy in us as humble and faithful servants. That joy is found only in giving of ourselves unconditionally and without any expectation of reward or recognition.

Much like how physical workout is initially a chore and after regularly doing it eventually becomes a pleasure, obeying God may at first feel like an obligation but increasingly becomes a habit, a lifestyle. To the point where we can say we delight to do His will and His law is within our hearts. Let us serve the Lord with gladness and experience this for ourselves.
