November 24, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment
“My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders.”
Finding it ironic that the Jews delivered Jesus to be sentenced to death, Pilate asked if He was their king. Jesus' response was that His kingdom is not of this world, that if it were, His followers would resort to the same game of scheming and violence to further it.
We are reminded today, the Feast of Christ the King, that Jesus is King and we are His loyal subjects. As such, our prayer is not only for His kingdom to come, but we align our hearts and minds with it by doing our part in ushering, nay hastening, it in to our world. That means observing His way of peace and nonviolence, humility and servanthood, mercy and love, in place of, and to subvert, the worldly way of war, domination, hatred and looking out for number one. That's how He reigns and that's how we reign with Him right now until, literally, kingdom come.
