Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, order your disciples to stop." He answered, "I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.” (Luke 19:39-40)
From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is praised, whether by the heavens which constanly declare His glory, or through the mouths of infants and nursing babies. If for some reason living beings on earth don't join in that, inanimate objects like stones would cry out, the mountains and hills hills would break forth into shouts, and the trees of the field clap their hands.
We at Cathedral of the King are currently finishing a church building for our community. Long after the generation that started it is gone, the concrete structure will continue to shout God's praise. But as leader, I constantly remind the parishioners that it is just a means to an end, that like we always pray, it will be a facility in which God's people, being restored in His image and ever growing in love for Him, might become a habitation of His presence and ministers of His life, to the glory of His name. Because we Christians should be leading the rest of creation in exalting the Lord, not defaulting on our calling to bless Him and forcing them to pick up where we left off.
