The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother and tell him, “We have found the Messiah!” (John 1:41)
Today is the Feast of Saint Andrew. This apostle's name means man or human. The prefix "andro" or "anthro" is derived from it. Although Jesus is the ideal human, Andrew's example in the gospel narrative also points to what man is supposed to be like. Upon encountering the Son of God, who is very God Himself, the first thing he did was look for his brother and bring him to Him.
Well-intentioned people, in ignorance of the true gospel, present a superficial kind that reduces Jesus to a mere ticket to eternal life which is (mis)understood as a postmortem good place. But eternal life is knowing God through Him and can be experienced at all times and in all places. Such causes us to naturally want to get others to know Him as well. This is what Andrew did, and this is what every man should also find fulfillment in doing - know God and make Him known.
