Awake, my glory! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.” (Ps 57:8)
David was a fugitive from Saul's murderous hatred when he wrote Psalm 57. He had been anointed by the prophet Samuel as the new king but for about fifteen years, he ran and hid, patiently waiting for his official enthronement. Then he came to a point where he decided to strengthen himself in the Lord, to awaken the dawn, and to refuse to accept the permanence of his plight. Instead of moping, he looked to God and praised Him. Twice he had a chance and could have killed Saul, but he put his trust in God’s faithfulness to fulfill His promise. It paid off immensely. God made his royal line last forever through his descendant who would be the Messiah.
When we go through our own dark night of the soul, let us remember David’s story and realize that joy always comes in the morning.
