October 30, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

“Take care not to slip by your tongue and fall victim to one lying in wait.” (Sirach 28:26)

Scripture has a lot to say about being careful with our words. It says by them we will be justified or condemned. Likewise, it says death and life are in the power of the tongue. It warns us about the possible repercussions of careless statements.

Unfortunately, it seems that there are those who watch our words more than we do, waiting for us to make a mistake. Even so, as Christians we speak not just to avoid such snares but to bring good news and to give hope and encouragement. Let us make sure our tongues proclaim blessings not curses.
