Isaiah 7: 10:“Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying …” You would expect God to give a sign of such critical importance as that of Immanuel, the Child born of a virgin, to someone really reliable; a good and righteous king such as David, or Hezekiah, or Josiah. Surprise! The message goes to Ahaz, one of the worst of Judah’s kings, who sacrificed his son and replaced Solomon’s altar and laver with pagan ones (2 Kings 16:1-18). Even in the midst of such religious decline, God always gets His message through!
