Saturday, August 3: “Short-sighted Consequences”

Matthew 28: 12, 13, 15a:“They gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, and said, ‘You are to say, “His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were sleep.”’

Stop and think: Who were the only eyewitnesses of the Resurrection? Mary, Peter, and hundreds of others saw the resurrected Christ, but who saw the Resurrection? Only the guards. What did they do? First they fainted, then they denied it had ever happened–for a price, of course (and to save their lives, for sleeping guards were slain by the Romans). The choice to save their own lives led to a horrible consequence–the disbelief of many(v. 16). We must do better, and use our free will wisely!
