Saturday, August 31: “Not the Whole Story”
Job 10: 8, 9:“Your hands fashioned and made me altogether, and would You destroy me? Remember now, that You have made me as clay; and would You turn me into dust again?”
If these words of Job sound familiar, it is because he is (mis)quoting a more well-known passage fromPsalm 119: 73,which says,“Your hands made me and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.” From the pen of the psalmist is a prayer for understanding and deeper relationship; while Job, in the midst of his suffering, is questioning God’s very goodness. But we know that he eventually came around, and “spoke of God what is right.”(Job 42: 7, 8)
