Saturday, December 28: “Restoration of Newness”

Revelation 21: 5: “He Who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ And He said, ‘Write, for these things are faithful and true.’”

Notice the verb tense of the words of Jesus Christ to John the Revelator: “I am making.” Not “I will make”; this is an ongoing work. Not “I have made”; this current situation is not what it will be when God is finished. Then come the words, “all things new,” not “all new things.” This is a restoration of what was before, not a replacement, the Kingdom of God before the fall; not just Adam’s fall, but the celestial fall of an age before. And it’s all because “the tabernacle of God is among men” (v. 3). It’s the greatest Christmas verse in the Bible, all the way back in the next-to-last age of the Book. Faithful and true, indeed!
