Saturday, February 1: “Familial Assembly”

Mark 7: 10-13a:“Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother’; and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother is to be put to death’; but you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, whatever I have that would help you is Corban (that is to say, given to God),’ you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or his mother; thus invalidating the word of God.”

How ironic! In an effort to support their own self-centered, convoluted version of the Law, The Pharisees and scribes were violating the very words of Moses, their mentor and hero. The Ten Commandments—the fifth included—were intended to foster and nurture relationships, not destroy them.
