“God Intentions XXI”

Genesis 29: 7b, 8, 10“[Jacob] said, ‘Water the sheep, and go, pasture them.’ But they said, ‘We cannot, until all the flocks are gathered, and they roll the stone from the mouth of the well; then we water the sheep.’ …  When Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of his mother’s brother, Jacob went and rolled the stone from the mouth of the well and watered the flock of Laban His mother’s brother.”

The stone covering the mouth of the well was large, too large for one man to move(v. 2). But when Jacob saw Rachel, this man who was no man of the field, but someone who stayed in tents(Genesis 25: 27), suddenly developed superhuman strength and moved the stone by himself. (A reminder of another unmovable stone that was rolled away, Mark 16: 4) Imagine Rachel’s reaction to what Jacob did for her! From that day their love match was sealed (Ra-cob? Jay-Ray?) because it was God’s intention.
