Saturday, January 6: “Christmas Peace VII”

Matthew 12: 18b-21“I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles. He will not quarrel, nor cry out; nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets. A battered reed He will not break off, and a smoldering wick He will not put out, until He leads justice to victory. And in His Name the Gentiles will hope.”

When you think of Jesus, what comes to mind? The One that cleared the temple of sacrifice-sellers and money changers, and said that only the violent take the Kingdom, and that He was here to bring a sword rather than peace, and that He came for Jews only? Or the One Isaiah foresees here, and Whom the Magi, without a drop of Abraham’s blood, worshiped as their king? The former things, taken in context, exert no conflict with the Christmas angel’s picture of the Messiah, and of the promise ofPsalm 46: 9, “He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the war chariots with fire.”On this Feast of Epiphany, the Manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles, truly Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace lauded by the angels in Bethlehem!
