Saturday, July 29: “Spread Not the Hate”
Psalm 139: 22-24: “I hate them with the utmost hatred; they have become my enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.”
David’s abrupt gear changing here is almost comical. After proclaiming his hatred for certain groups, he suddenly feels a pang of conscience and asks the Lord to show him any hurtful way within him. One wonders if he ever connected the dots and realized that the hurtful way he regrets in verse twenty-four is the hatred he expresses in verse twenty-two …
