Saturday, October 14: “Strong Conviction”

Jeremiah 35: 8-10: “We have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he commanded us, not to drink wine all our days; we, our wives, our sons and our daughters, nor to build ourselves houses to dwell in; and we do not have vineyard or field or seed. We have only dwelt in tents, and have obeyed and have done all that Jonadab our father commanded us.”

Conviction is much more than a nagging voice that irritates our waking hours and disturbs our sleeping hours. It can be a force within us that helps us maintain our path. The Rechabites stood true to God to such a degree that He was able to use them as an object lesson to the whole house of Judah. Standing on our convictions is a practice that takes us beyond temptation, and helps us keep our fellowship with the Lord.
