Saturday, September 23: “Temptation to Annul”

Matthew 5: 17: “Do not think I came to abolish the Law or the prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.”

If you say, “The Law can no longer condemn me,” Jesus would agree with you, because the Law never could condemn you. That’s not its job. The Law was given to give mankind a picture of what God looks like, of what love looks like. Is that picture needed any less now than in Mt. Sinai days? I think not. The difference now is, it is no longer written in stone, but in our hearts, where love belongs. From there, the Law will be fulfilled. Be not tempted to preach its annulment, or abolish it yourself (v. 18). SHOW LESS
