September 15, 2021: Daily Dose of Discernment

My message was not with enticing words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit’s power, that your faith might not rest on the wisdom of men but on the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)

I can't imagine Saint Paul, the zealous, learned, strictly-disciplined theologian saying his speech is not with persuasive words of human wisdom. As someone also called to preach the gospel, I can't help asking, "If that's how he feels, where does it leave the likes of me?" Where? Exactly the same place he is, where we rely only on the power of the Spirit, not on our abilities, great or small. In the first place, what we're proclaiming is really not ours. We're merely messengers relaying the word of the Lord. We are excited to fulfill our calling not because of our eloquence, but because the message is good news of great joy.
