September 16, 2021 Daily Dose of Discernment

When one says, “I’m on Paul’s side,” and another says, “I’m for Apollos,” aren’t you being totally childish? Who is Paul, anyway? Who is Apollos? Servants who waited on you. (1 Corinthians 3:4-5)

Divisions have no place in the church. It is God’s household whose head is Jesus and whose unity is in the Spirit. It’s sad that people, even Christians, sometimes fall victim to schisms because their loyalties are to personalities rather than to Christ and His church.

While it’s perfectly fine to revere men who are models of faith and godliness, they, like the rest of us, are servants. Some plant, some water, but it is God who causes the growth. We follow His Son as the Lord and are members of His body, not of any wealthy or influential person’s faction. Let us remember that at baptism, we were marked as Christ’s own forever, not any other’s. We live in Him, we live through Him and we live for Him.
