“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing songs to God as the other prisoners listened.” (Acts 16:25)
Paul and Silas were in a cold, dark dungeon with their feet fastened in stocks after being flogged severely. For what? Delivering a slave girl from an evil spirit and fulfilling their mission. What did they do then? Sing songs to God. What resulted from that? Prison doors were opened and the chains of the prisoners were broken.
This story never fails to encourage us to proclaim God's praise notwithstanding adversity because it may just set captives free. We can always choose to complain to Him for allowing us to suffer when we're just being obedient to Him, and we would be in the right. But if we do, we may pass the chance of being powerfully used by God as instruments of deliverance to those in bondage.
