September 27, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

“Issue a decree in the king’s name for whatever you want concerning the Jews, and seal it with his signet ring; because a decree written in his name and sealed with his ring cannot be revoked.” (Esther 8:8)

This proclamation from the Perisan king Ahasuerus allegorically reveals the God-given authority that is waiting to be exercised by His people. Jesus reiterates this when He says that whatever we bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatever we loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven, and whichever sins we forgive are forgiven and whichever we retain are retained.

Sin is the sting of death. This is why the Lamb of God takes away the sin of the world, to eliminate death at the source, and nip it in the bud. We can participate in His mission because we have been given authority, and power, not to call fire down from heaven, but to hasten the coming of its kingdom by receiving our daily bread and having our trespasses forgiven as we forgive those who trespass against us. This will lead to the restoration of all things and usher in the life of the world to come.
