September 29, 2021: Daily Dose of Discernment

“Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)

Many understand this declaration from Jesus to mean that only a small minority will go into eternal life and the rest of mankind will end up in eternal damnation. That is the exact opposite of God’s will. He does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked and is not willing that any should perish.

What Jesus is doing here is starting with a small group of people and showing them the narrow gate, not because they’re the only ones that are favored, but because they will be sent into all the world to preach the gospel, make disciples of all nations and immerse them in the name of the Godhead so that they too may find the road that leads to life. It’s not about predestination to destruction; it’s about evangelizing the world. You are blessed if you found the narrow way, but you’re blessed to be a blessing by showing others that way.
