September 29, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment
“He who is not against us is for us.” (Mark 9:40)
Jesus had just gotten through saying that humility and servanthood are the marks of true greatness when John once again showed how hung up he was on being elite and exclusive. He forbade someone who was casting out demons, insisting he was not part of their clique. Jesus told him to leave him alone because he who is not against them is for them and such should not be hindered.
Wisdom tells us that there is no end to what we can do together if we learn to not care about who gets the credit and just focus on building God's kingdom and giving Him the glory in whatever we do. If we do that, we'd be free from the stress of trying to prove ourselves and we'd be experiencing the joy of serving with contentment.
