September 7, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. (John 10:10)

No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is in closest relationship with the Father, has revealed Him (John 1:18). Our forefathers and the prophets received revelations which only set forth a portion of the truth about Him (Hebrews 1:1). Therefore, no one can make the Father known like the Son can.

Jesus, who is one substance with His Father, declares that He does not steal, kill, destroy, or do other harmful things, in effect saying neither does God. This doesn't change despite the belief of many, including Christians, that He does. It's somebody else, not God, who causes pain, suffering, and death. On the contrary, He desires the opposite - abundant life for all. He wills this so much that He gave His life to provide it. We know that to be true because He who is the Truth says it.
