When asked by the Pharisees when God’s kingdom would come, Jesus told them it doesn’t come by counting the days on the calendar, or when someone says it’s in a certain place, because it’s already here. Technically, it encompasses heaven and earth and all that is seen and unseen. But some parts of it have been corrupted by darkness and don’t display its nature and character, and are in the process of being restored.
What we look forward to is the full manifestation of that kingdom: love, righteousness, justice, joy and peace. But we don’t wait idly. We are called to participate in establishing its truth by having God’s will done on earth as it is in heaven. As we join in crushing the deeds of darkness and walking in His light, we declare that the kingdom of God is here among men and we hasten the coming of its fullness.
