Sunday, January 5: “The Voice of the Lord”
Psalm 29: 4, 7, 8a: “The voice of the Lord is powerful, the voice of the Lord is majestic … The voice of the Lord hews out flames of fire. The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness.”
The voice of the Lord manifests itself in many ways. It can be as awe-inspiring as David the warrior-king describes it here, or as the gentle blowing Elijah experienced (1 Kings 19: 12). Or, as we have seen this Christmas season, it can be heard in a baby’s cry from a manger, or a child’s cry from the scene of a brutal massacre. As God’s people, we should recognize them all (John 10: 4).
