Sunday, July 7: “Misrepresented Response”

Numbers 27: 14: “For in the wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, you rebelled against My command to treat Me as holy before their eyes at the water. (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.).”

Wow, what did Moses do that was so wrong, it kept him out of the Promised Land, even after forty years of faithful leadership? He misrepresented the Lord to the people. When they were thirsty at Meribah, the Lord in no way manifested anger (Numbers 20: 7-12). He simply told Moses, “Speak to the rock.” It was Moses who was angry; it was his own anger he expressed when he struck the rock–twice. So, how serious is it for someone who claims to speak for God to misrepresent Him, ascribing to Him anger, passivity, unrighteousness, or injustice? Ask Moses.
