Thursday, August 18: “This Is Only a Test: Part IV”

Psalm 132: 11, 12: “The Lord has sworn to David a truth from which He will not turn back: ‘Of the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne. If your sons will keep My covenant and My testimony which I will teach them, their sons also shall sit upon your throne forever.”

The test the Lord gave to the sons of David seemed rather simple–Keep My covenant and My laws (Don’t worry, I Myself will teach them to you) and you’ll follow in your dad’s royal footsteps. However, the test revealed hearts with other priorities, and within five hundred years or so there was no more throne for a son of David to sit on–and it stayed that way for four hundred years. But because David had passed his own test, the Son Who got it right ascended to the throne, and He’s been there ever since. You know Who that is, don’t you? Test successful!
