Thursday, August 8: “Glorious Peace”
Judges 8: 28: “So Midian was subdued before the sons of Israel, and they did not lift up their heads anymore. And the land was undisturbed for forty years in the days of Gideon.”
As a postscript to the battle of Gideon’s three hundred vs. the Midianites: Afterward, there was forty years of peace. We know the significance of that number, right? It is symbolic of a full generation (not like today’s “Gens”, which are lucky to reach ten years, usually less). The generation which comes to God in brokenness and humility, like those three hundred men, shining forth His light of truth, can expect the peace of God, which passes all understanding.
