Thursday, February 29: “The Odd of God V”
Genesis 42: 38: “Jacob said, ‘My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he alone is left. If harm should befall him on the journey you are taking, then you will bring my gray hair down to Sheol in sorrow.’”
Does Jacob seem a little shortsighted to you here? Not only is Benjamin far from his last remaining son (see nine others there in front of you, Jake?), but if he doesn’t take the risk and send him to Egypt with his brothers, the hair and all other body parts of the entire family will go down to Sheol in starvation. It’s yet another example of just how odd mankind, the Odd of God, can be. But God still considers these men patriarchs, and so should we.
