Thursday, June 6: “Fully Satisfied”

Matthew 14: 14, 20: “When [Jesus] went ashore, He saw a large crowd and felt compassion for them … and they all ate and were satisfied. They picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve full baskets.”

There is a reason this miracle of Christ is told in all four Gospels, the only one outside of Holy Week that can make that claim. In it we see Christ’s compassion for the distressed and dispirited, and His response to their needs. And, as we see in His follow up to this miraculous feeding in John chapter six, the bread that truly satisfies God’s children and fulfills their longing is the Body of Christ, the Bread of Heaven.
