Thursday, March 11: “Distress, not Destruction”

Jeremiah 10: 18, 24: “For thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I am slinging out the inhabitants of the land at this time, and will cause them distress, that they may be found.’ … Correct me, O Lord, but with justice; not with anger, lest You bring me to nothing.” In order for us to understand that our own wills lead us to ruin, God sometimes brings us to distress; not as punishment, but that we may find ourselves. It is then that we learn that “a man’s way is not in himself”, (v. 23) and God corrects us, not with anger, but with the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
