Thursday, May 30: “The Holy Trinity: Source of all Life”

Proverbs 22: 4: “The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life.” The Nicene Creed states, “We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life.”

To claim life, along with riches and honor, as a reward for our humility and reverence for the Lord betrays the fact that we have little of either. The Spirit is an unmerited gift, and so is the life He gives us. While, as Solomon says, humility and fear bear their own good fruit, even those fruits are gifts of the Spirit (Isaiah 11: 2).
