Numbers 21: 6: “The Lord sent fiery serpents among the people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died..”
How can a plague of snakes be good? By being a sign of Christ’s atoning sacrifice and the resulting salvation of mankind. Jesus Himself stated twice (John 3: 14; 12: 32, 33) that He would be lifted up just as Moses’ bronze serpent was; not in exaltation, but in crucifixion. On this Feast of the Holy Cross, let us remember that God foreordained and used man’s most abhorrent act to bring eternal life to the world. That’s good!
