Tuesday, May 9: “Restored Jezebel”

Luke 8: 1b, 2: “The twelve were with [Jesus], and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out.”

You remember Mary Magdalene, the person to whom Jesus first appeared after His resurrection, the one whom He entrusted as His messenger of that eternity-changing event to His disciples. What was she when she first met Jesus? Suffice it to say, St. Luke’s description of her as a seven-time demoniac was one of the kindest among the four evangelists. She too, and other women with her (v3), received restoration, and were used by God to help make the logistics of Jesus’ ministry possible. Without restoration working in these women’s lives, the Gospel story would have been quite different.
