Tuesday, October 3: “Revival of Nation”

2 Chronicles 29: 1a, 2, 3: “Hezekiah became king when he was twenty-five years old … he did right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father David had done. In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them.”

Since he was nine years old, Hezekiah had watched his father the king do wickedly, even burning some of his sons in the fire to other gods. (2 Chronicles 28: 1-4. Fortunately, Hezekiah was not among them.) Now, after sixteen years of evil, it’s revival time! He starts symbolically with the doors of the temple, that all who enter may be consecrated. The following chapters prove this to be no mere emotional outburst, but a core change in Israel’s heart. And, as we shall see, the Lord rewards it with divine deliverance.
