Tuesday, September 12: “Love + Purpose = Good, Pt. II”

Philippians 1: 12, 13: “Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the Gospel, so that my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well-known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else.”

Of all those to whom Paul had ministered, the Philippians knew best of all that God could work out even imprisonment to have a good result. Just ask the city jailer (Acts 16: 23-33). There, the Lord turned a potential jailbreak, which would have meant execution for the jailer, into the catalyst of his salvation. Here in Rome, the entire royal guard heard the Gospel daily as St. Paul received his visitors (Acts 28: 30, 31). This is how he was able to submit to the will the Lord had revealed to him (Acts 9: 16; 21: 11), for he knew that God would work it all out for good.
