“Unexpected Judgment”

Malachi 3: 5: “’Then I will draw near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against those who swear falsely, and against those who oppress the wage earner in his wages, the widow and the orphan, and those who turn aside the alien, and do not fear Me,’ says the Lord of hosts.” We all expect God to judge adultery and lying, maybe even sorcery a little bit, but who knew He is ready to judge unfair taxation that oppresses the wage earner and the turning aside of the alien? Whenever any political party tells us their platform is from God, we’d better check with Him on it first! Saturday, November 21: “Powerful Prayers” James 5: 17, 18: “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the sky poured rain, and the earth produced its fruit.” Wow, that was one powerful prayer! But let us not forget—it was the prayer God told him to pray. (1 Kings 17: 1; 18: 41-46) Compare that with the prayers mentioned in James 4: 3, and note well the difference.
