Wednesday, August 14: “Delightful Commandments

Psalm 119: 143: “Trouble and anguish have come upon me, yet Your commandments are my delight.”

Simple verse, with a great lesson. How times in the Bible, and in life, are people mighty in faith–until trouble and anguish show up? Then, like the seed sown in the thorns (Mark 4: 18, 19), they fade away. For the psalmist , there is no blaming of God in such times, no passing into the night. He just delights in the Lord’s commands and ways; no retreat, no compromise. Can we identify true courage yet?
