Wednesday, July 31: “Glorious Consequences”

Matthew 27: 50: “Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.”

The Father did not take His Spirit away from Jesus on the cross–Jesus gave it to Him, as a matter of choice. Like everything that He did in His earthly lifetime, it was in obedience to the Father, an obedience He chose to perform. And the divine consequences of that divine act of a will submitted to the ultimate were divine, as well. In His death we were made alive, and all the sin that stemmed from man’s misuse of his freedom was made null and void, its penalty paid, and the door to fellowship with God opened anew. That’s some consequence we should all be grateful for!
