Wednesday, September 13: “Love + Purpose = Good, Pt. III”
Matthew 2: 2: “Where is He Who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
The magi didn’t seem so wise when they finally reached Jerusalem; their lack of subtlety led to a raging Herod ordering the deaths of the infant Martyrs of Bethlehem. How could God possibly bring good out of that? For starters, it led to the fulfillment of the prophecies of Jeremiah (31: 15) and Micah (11: 1). And it led to the popularization of what might have remained a private event: the Revelation of Christ to the Gentiles. The Magis’ brashness reached not only Herod’s ears, but those of the whole world. God worked it together for a necessary good.
