Wednesday, September 18: “Bewitched”

Acts 16: 19: “But when [the fortune teller’s] masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the authorities.”

How much had these slave owners become focused on profit? When St. Paul had disabled the fortune-telling function of their minion, they had him and Silas beaten and imprisoned. They did not care about the bondage of the girl, only her profit-making potential. Thank the Lord, Paul cared about her deliverance (and the salvation of the jailer!)
