Wednesday, September 6: “Common Likeness”
James 3: 9: “With [our tongue] we bless our Lord and Father, and we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God.”
Is there a common likeness in which we have all been created? What is the alternative? The devil created some in his image? Or, even more unthinkable, God created some in the devil’s image? The story of creation shoots down both of these theories, for the devil created nothing, and God created everything “good”. And if all are created in God’s likeness, as James claims here, we’d best refrain from cursing anything or anyone he created thusly.
